The River Road Church of Christ (formerly Lincoln Avenue Church of Christ) began meeting as a congregation July 1944. The first meeting facility was located at 426 Lincoln Avenue. In August 1968 the congregation moved into a new facility at 2023 River Road. Several years later the street named "River Road" was changed to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. From July 1944 to the present, ten gospel preachers served the River Road Church of Christ as ministers. Those who served are listed in the table above. Presently, the church has two Ministers, three Elders and six Deacons serving over 500 members.

Our mission is to provide high quality teaching of God's Word, centered on the commandment of Jesus Christ to preach His gospel to all creation; to baptize those who believe and obey His gospel; and to teach those who have been baptized into His Kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20).

In 1992 the church was organized as required by Christ. We ordained three elders,                     front row from left to right Johnny H Moton,  L H Wade and Irenus Brown. Four         deacons were also ordained, back row from left to right, Lamar Petties, Tom Terry,          Isaiah Blackshear and Frank Mumphery.

A historic achievment (Bros. Andrew Wiggins, Marion Holliday, Ivory James, James Hudley, Johnny H Moton, Sylvester Dukes and Arthur Horton.

Built by hard work and sheer determination by those members who went before.

Proudly entering the new edifice.

Oh those singing groups!!

Such youthful innocence...

Can you just hear that bass?

Where are they now???

Do you remember this??? Then I'm afraid to ask your age...

The Great Flood of 1994

SAFEC building was under water like everything building in the neigbourhood.

Floodwaters devastated us, all fixtures and funiturein the present edifice had to be replaced.

The water destroyed everything but the building itself.

Members worked hard to clean and strip away the interior.

And like everyone else in the neighbourhood, everthing that was taken out was piled on the sidewalk.

The Education building was not spared, this too was claimed by the flood.

Bros. Holliday and Petties survey the damage.

The building minus all flood damaged furniture and fixtures.
